Journey
George Thomas Meiring hails from a farming background in the Wesselsbron district of the Free State, South Africa. He was born in Hoopstad and now resides in Johannesburg. From a very young age, music and performance shaped his path. At five, he won his first singing competition alongside his siblings, Bertus and Anne, in what was called the “Meiring Trio.”
His school years at Nelsdrift Primary School and later Welkom Gymnasium were marked not only by musical participation, as he sang in school concerts but also by sporting achievement. He earned provincial colours in rugby and athletics. However, his passion remained firmly in singing. Meiring spent two years in the Free State Youth Choir, and during a European tour in the early 1990s, he featured as the choir’s soloist.
At age 21, George simultaneously won the prestigious Radio Oranje (OFM) Singing Competition and the Star Model of the Year title. He joined New Face Model Agency, which led to modeling work in Europe for brands including Dolce & Gabbana.
Over eleven years, he traveled extensively. He worked for a royal family, performing in exotic locations such as Dubai, Italy, Spain, Morocco, and France. These years broadened his experience and stagecraft, exposing him to diverse cultures and performance contexts.
Back in South Africa, George Meiring’s recording career took off. His debut album “Onthou Die Tye,” (2007) introduced him with 12 tracks sung in Afrikaans. This project emphasized remembering cherished moments and honoring life’s meaningful connections. His sophomore album, Ek Glo In More, followed, consisting of 13 tracks, carrying messages of faith, hope, and perseverance, urging listeners to look beyond present struggles toward brighter futures.
George Meiring became a familiar name in the South African music scene through his distinctive voice, authenticity, and stage presence. In 2006, during SABC2’s Supersterre singing competition, he placed second,a performance that solidified his public recognition. His vocal talent, charisma, and background as an international model contributed to his image as both performer and public figure
